If you get a tuner that goes into your computer, how would that tuner work without the computer being on?

There are external tuner boxes that works without a PC, but obviously, that'll cost a bit more than the kind that goes into a PC.

Not sure if this would hurt HD quality - but you could run extension coax line to an A-B box ( 2 inputs, 1 output) and connect your monitor to the other input.
By pushing A button you watch tv ( without putting in a card or using your computer)
By pushing B - It functions as computer monitor

The TV needs no remote. The remote should be used just as you would with your cable box, controlling the cable box and not the TV. Your best bet would be to use a home theater receiver as the switching box but that's going to run you a few hundred bucks. You need one with HDMI out and inputs and upconversion for any sources you would want to run into that monitor.

Something like this would probably work, but there are hundreds of options
