How long can we see the computer monitor everyday? What is the time limit?
karthika asked:
I want to know what is the safest time limit I can browse or see the computer monitor everyday. I use some computer at office along with laboratory work. So, I need advice how many hours maximum is good for my eyes. I already have spectacles and I can’t see far away objects without them. For example, I can’t see the writing on board or I can’t see the bus numbers without the spectacles.

First of all I think it’s awesome/kinda nerdy that call them spectacles.
As long as you are taking 10-15 minute breaks every hour you can look at a monitor for a long time. Obviously less is better, but if your job requires you too look at a monitor all day, just be sure to take 10 minutes every hour and work on something else, go to the bathroom, get something to drink, etc… Tom A
2 hours per session – 20 second breaks every 10 minutes (look away or read something other than on a screen for 20 seconds). 20 minute breaks every 2 hours.
I don’t think more than 8 hours a day is good for you, but it doesn’t seem excessive if you take the suggested breaks. Peter
Limit is 2 hours/session. U should take rest for at least 10min after an hour. Take ur concentration away from monitor after every 10mins. subhankar
There are several answers to this.
First you can listen to medical advice but i doubt if the medics can ever know the exact consequenses of looking at a monitor. There are several isues connected to looking at a monitor like : radiation, eye-fatigue and risk epileptic attack , personal development etc. And all these isues are again related to specific conditions, like your health, wether you’r tired or not, the amount of light in a room, what kind of monitor you use etc.
And of course there is a big difference if u look at a computer screen for work or in your free time. When you look at a monitor for work and u fear u might have a negative impact from looking at a monitor for a long time you have to consider what your health is worth to you in relation to your job. Especially in a workenvironment professional advice is recommended also to stand judicially stronger in case of any conflict.
Of course if you’s worried there are always things you can do youself to minimize the impact of long hours behind the computer at work: Sport, ask your employer for sufficient lighting and maybe an adapted workschedule. Also, as compensation for looking at a closeby screen do things in the open that require ur eyes to focus in the distance.
Im not a medic, but generally i would say concearning monitors, if it doesn’t hurt or make you dizzy it should be ok, but especially when u get dizzy u should stop immidiately. Feeling tired eyes for a few times is not so bad i think, but you should not make it a habit. It’s all a matter of using common sense and choice, like with most things in live. peter
