How to stretch the screen out on my computer when using a HD TV as a monitor?
I was wondering how you can stretch out the screen on a computer when using a HD tv. Right now it has black bars to each side, and slightly thinner lines at the top and bottom.
I’ve read around where people suggested changing some settings on the monitor itself, but I’m not able to do that since it’s not a usual computer monitor, and it doesn’t that the little buttons on the set itself for that option.

HD TV’s should have a screen mode type (i.e. zoom, full, normal, wide zoom) that is selectable for different reasons. Usually an option on the remote control.
Though you have these options available on the TV, there are also settings within the computer that you may be able to adjust to make a difference as well.
You would have to go into your computer’s display properties (usually by right clicking on an empty area of your desktop), and then the Settings tab. There you can adjust your screen resolution which will change the display through a variety of screen types that may work for you. You would need to change the settings for the video port that your TV is hooked up to, usually seen as another monitor that you have to click on first within the window.

change the displays resolution. make it a wide screen and it will eliminate the bars. typically 1280×720, 1920×1080, or1920×1200.
some HDTVs will require you to put the computer input as HDMI or it’ll assume you want only a 3:4 screen type. that was the case with my dad’s Sony Bravia HDTV. with VGA it was stuck with a square-ish display, in HDMI mode it allowed a full screen 1920×1200 resolution. ishootbirds2
