Is it possible to plug your xbox 360 directly in to a hd computer monitor with a hdmi cable?

i have a hd computer monitor with a hdmi input in it and i was wondering if it would be possible to connect my 360 directly in to it by using a hdmi cable instead of a vga cable to get hd quality graphics? And would you be able to do it with out having the monitor plugged in to a computer, just having it plugged in to a power outlet? cheers
