I want to buy a LCD TV to use as a monitor also as a TV. Is that a good idea? Or should I just buy an actual monitor and add a TV tuner to my computer?

There’s nothing wrong with using an LCD TV as both a television and a computer monitor. What happens, though, when you (or someone else) wants to watch TV while the computer is being used? Or, what happens when you need to take your computer elsewhere and you have no monitor to take with it? saaga06

a lcd tv uses the same technology as an lcd monitor so it will be more than fine for what u need and you won´t also need to buy all the rest of the crap to get tv through a computer.
what you could buy is a tv in/vivo card and use you´re pc as a video recorder. bomber123433307

one thing is to make sure the lcd tv is fully HDTV and that the tv also has the right connections DVI (big white connector) VGA (smaller blue connector) Componant (three video cords) you need one or two of those. the best is of course DVI.

What you might not know is the prices of the cables. you should plan to stick the computer next to the television. at the stores you can expect to pay 60-150$ for a DVI cable. if the television only has HDMI there is another 50-60$ for that connector. sound tack another 40$

cables are expensive. i did pick up a DVI-DVI and DVI-VGA and DVI-HDMI cables all for under 30$ each at the website below. read the specs and learn your stuff about the flat panels before making a purchase

If it is a large (27″ or more) and your going to play alot of video games. you might want to get a powerfull card to push the resolutions that the Television requires! my 6800Ultra can still push even the most demanding games at 1080i but that was a very expensive card in its day :)

Best of luck for you. also consider a dual montior set up for gaming or just cruisng the internet when you want to watch televison and play the computer at the same time.

DVD’s on the computer can look very good also :) twigsoffury
