how to play nintendo 64 using a computer monitor?

i just bought this cable adapter “VGA to TV S-Video 3 RCA Jack Composite AV Cable NEW NG” so i can hook up my n64 to play on my computer monitor. I cant get it to work. I even tried using the tvs VGA port to see if it would work using the adapter. Any ideas, comments to fix my problem? i want to avoid buying a tv as much as possible.

I want a TV between 22-25″ or so for the bedroom and I’ve noticed that you can get a computer monitor that size with built in speakers for less money than a TV. What is the difference between a TV and a monitor besides the built in tuner? Could I get a 1920×1080 monitor with built in speakers and feed it via HDMI from my cable box as my bedroom TV?

Installed custom Windows 7 64bit on my computer last night. I had been using my hdtv as a monitor for the past month with Windows Vista with no problems. Now I want to continue using my hdtv as a monitor but all I see is a blank screen, I have a Dell Inspiron laptop, a vga cable, my tv is a 32″ LG hdtv. Can anyone help?
