How can i use my monitor and tv, with my computer, at the same time?

Is it possible to have my computer and my television running at the same time. So if i am doing something on my computer monitor it will be also shown on my television.?
I have attached my computer to my television through s-video, so i am able to connect to my computer on my television the only problem is it gives me a split screen so i have to drag my mouse over to he tv screen. I need a way to use my computer that allows both displays to be the same.
