Why is there an odd glow from my old computer monitor?
haha your emo asked:
I have an old computer monitor in my room (about 8 or 9 years old) that hasn’t been used in about a year. Whenever i leave the light on in the room for a while and turn it off there is a faint glow coming from the screen. Why is this?

It’s a CRT moniter right? They tend to absorb some light and release it after use. The same thing happens if you turn it off in a dark room. You can still the the moniter for a while. chancellor_f

The computer itself turn video card on stand by mode so it conserve energy. so You think that the monitor is turn off but actually it is still on only the video feed is turn off from the Computer tower to the monitor. The monitor is firing energy inside tube and it giving off light Tyler M
Ah, i asked my dad this once when I had watched Poltergeist and then noticed a faint glow coming from my big old tube TV in my bedroom, although it was unplugged and covered with a towel. Well, my dad said that (he is a computer techie) computer monitors and also computers themselves have the ability to harness and store energy, therefore, computer monitors continue to emit a faint glow although they’re inactive. Also, your old desktop harnessed energy and is still holding onto it, which is why an inactive or old computer must be recycled, and even an old computer that has been inactive can emit an electric shock when bashed with a hammer.
